Center for Business and Economic Research | Undergraduate Research Award 2022-23 | 2nd Round Call for BS Eco and BS Eco and Math

Center for Business and Economic Research is accepting the application for "Undergraduate Research Award 2022-23'. The award is meant to support promising final year undergraduate research projects (i.e., FYPs) which demonstrate academic merit and genuine financial need to meet field data collection and other research related expenses, excluding stipends and purchase of hardware e.g., mobile phone, or tablet(s). This year, we to have funds for multiple awards. An awardee may receive a grant of anything from PKR 10,000 to PKR 75,000 depending on the nature of their project activities.


Eligibility:

Applicant must:

  • possess an active full-time enrollment in BS Economics or BS Economics & Mathematics
  • be engaged in ongoing work on their approved final year project (FYP)
  • have already a willing faculty designated by department to supervise their research
  • be on track for their degree and free of unjustifiable delays or extensions
  • ideally not having any other source of funding for the same project. However, if it is, it must be duly mentioned in the application form.

How to apply:

The students shall submit their research proposal on the prescribed format (see at the end of this call) to CBER by emailing at cber@iba.edu.pk on or before January 06, 2023, 23:59 hrs. The format can be found at the end of this information pack.


Process:

  • all research proposals will be evaluated by a designated committee.
  • awardee will be selected and get award conformation letter/email
  • awardee will attend a briefing session on how they may utilize funds.
  • awardee will spend allocated funds in the manner prescribed in the award letter.
  • awardee shall submit a monthly project progress report
  • project completion letter/email by the Department to show that the project has been completed and submitted to the Department satisfaction and that CBER's support has been acknowledged in the prescribed manner.
  • awardee will submit a two-pager 'Research Brief' for the CBER's website.
  • CBER shall close the project financially and administratively and issue a project completion certificate to the awardee

Expectations:

  • grantees are expected to produce above average quality research closely on the lines proposed in the application for award and secures a minimum B+ level thesis grade. In case of securing lower grade, student submits a one-page reflection report honestly describing the reasons. No further queries will be made by CBER, or Department and the reflection shall be accepted as such. The learning from your experience may however be used anonymously for the training purposes to improve the quality and process of future projects.
  • all grantees are expected to acknowledge CBER's support in the final line of acknowledgement section of their thesis/final report with the statement, "This project has been completed with funding support of the Center for Business and Economic Research under their Undergraduate Research Award No. xxxx." Similar acknowledgment is supposed to be made for any other outlet of research such as conference or journal paper's acknowledgement section.
  • Grantees should be prepared to make a brief presentation of their research at CBER's in an event may be organized by CBER/Department of Economics.
